About this listen

Who better to fight back the darkness of the world than the one responsible for most of it?

Daylen, once known as the Great Bastard, the Scourge of Nations, Dayless the Conqueror, has lived in hiding since his presumed death. Burdened by age and tremendous guilt, he thinks his life is coming to an end. Unbeknownst to him he’s about to embark on a journey towards redemption where his ruthless abilities might save the world. Many battles await with friends to be made and a past filled with countless crimes to confront, all the while trying to keep his true identity a secret.

Indeed, it might be too much if not for the fabled power awaiting him.

Everfall is a world of perpetual day where the continents float in an endless sky. If one jumps from the continent they will fall for many hours before returning to the same place from which they fell. Skyships rule the air powered by shining sunstone and industrial darkstone. A legendary order of knights bears mystical powers which they use to hunt out the dreaded shade, monsters that regular people turn into if trapped in darkness for the length of a fall.

It is a world of enchanted swords, merciless monsters, mystical knights, and hard magic, filled with tales of wonder and adventure.

Just finished the audiobook.

I can honestly say, this audio/book is absolutely fantastic. The story is original and the mechanics of the world a thought through and explained well. The narrators both do a fantastic job and put their all into it.

I loved the way that the combat is described. it's an orchestra of hard magical powers, swordplay and emotion.

10/10 Well done to Shad M. Brooks, Michael Kramer and Kate Reading.

Absolutely fantastic

I just felt for the characters so much. I wanted them to succeed, I wanted them to overcome there mental roadblocks, I felt their pain and I felt conflicted, and at times I wasn’t even sure who to route for. This is a fantastic journey and I can’t wait for the next instalment.

This is so good

If this had been a standard "our world" fantasy novel then it would have been very good, but the added twist of different concepts (a flat world and "fall" to mark night and day) plus the way the light was used in the world made it excellent.

I really enjoyed this book and found it easy to keep reading for hours at a time both on Kindle and Audible. I was initially a bit disappointed by the ending but on reflection realised that (hopefully) the way it finished means there will be another book or more in the series.

Well worth a read, and I look forward to Shad's future works.

Great fantasy with a difference

The only reason it took me so long to finish listening to this book was that I didn't want it to end though what an ending it was the last two or three hours I couldn't pause I was hooked.
The world-building was outstanding from the very start I've already recommended it to my friends family and even strangers nearby when I finished the individual chapters.

If you like swords I recommend this book!

I'm a massive fan of Shad and I'm going to try to make this as unbiased as possible.

All things considered I think this was an excellent first book. I can't imagine how hard it is to write your first novel and with that in mind I think some of the negative comments that have been made don't take that into account.

My only negative that I can really say is that Shad gets a little bogged down with some of the more technical aspects in trying to ensure that his magic system makes sense and is logical.

Aside from that I genuinely enjoyed it and am thoroughly looking forward to the next book in the series.

The narration (as with all of their works) is top notch.

I laughed, was surpised, was engrossed and felt joy and sorrow. A truly wonderful listen.

A spur of the moment and a happy surpise.
