About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

In this sizzling dystopian romance, perfect for fans of
Fourth Wing and The Hunger Games, your secrets can be a death sentence, and there are rules to survival:

TRUST NO ONE.

Twenty-year-old Wren Darlington is not your ordinary Mod. She’s one of the most powerful in existence.

But her world is divided. On the Continent, being a known Modified means certain death, as the Primes - those immune to the biotoxin that nearly wiped out the population 150 years ago - want nothing more than to eliminate those who were enhanced by the toxin and developed psychic powers.

LIE TO EVERYONE.

Wren has survived all these years by concealing her abilities and keeping a low profile while doing what she can to aid the rebel Uprising in fighting against the Primes’ oppressive rule. But one careless mistake places her in the crosshairs of the Continent’s military, and she is forced to join their most elite program: Silver Block. Unwittingly, her enemy has given her - and the Uprising - the perfect opportunity to strike a devastating blow from inside their ranks.

AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FALL FOR YOUR GREATEST ENEMY.

That is, if she can keep her powers hidden, survive training, and prove herself to Cross Redden, her cocky, maddeningly attractive commanding officer.

Despite the explosive chemistry between them, Wren cannot let Cross get in the way of her mission. But as war rages between Mods like her and those who aim to destroy them, emotions run high and secrets are revealed, forcing Wren to decide how far she’s willing to go to protect herself . . . and how much of the Continent is worth saving.

Editorial Review

A new series to obsess over
A dystopian, enemies-to-lovers tale with a powerful heroine and a dash of fantasy? Dani Francis, did you write this for me? Needless to say, I inhaled this debut, which hooked me from the outset with its air of mystery and surprising humour. Wren Darlington has spent her life hiding—both her true identity (which even she doesn’t know) and her powerful psychic abilities that would mean death by execution. Both by chance and by her own mistakes, she lands herself in the Continent’s military training program where she now has the opportunity to join the rebellion of Modifieds (like herself) and cause chaos from inside enemy lines. One problem (among many): Her attraction to her commanding officer. Amanda Dolan (Red Queen) is perfectly cast as Wren, and the twists that come in the final third of the book already have me aching for a sequel. —Katie O., Audible Editor

I was missing some some complexities in the characters, and in the relationships between the people.

It was fine

Now I had an absolute banging time listening to the first two thirds of this book but then it dragged a little before picking back up. I saw someone say the romance was a copy paste of Xaden/Violet and in my opinion that is so very wrong. The character of Wren is far too different from Violet for that to be true. Did I still enjoy the story overall? Definitely. Do I want to know what happens next? Absolutely. But this book does seem to have been slightly over hyped on social media. For me the plot is great and intriguing but the romance just wasn't there. They're a fun couple but the yearning really wasn't there for me, at least once they started sleeping together, before that it was okay but then kind of tailed off. It's mostly predictable with only one good twist I didn't see coming at the end. Overall a fun vibes read/listen but lacks emotion for me.

I'm Intrigued For Sure

As I started reading it, it reminded me a lot about FW but as I got further I rather loved it! The only thing I don't love is the cliffhanger and that I gotta wait for second installement xdddd

Loved it!

Dani Francis, what have you done to me?

The narration really enhanced the entire reading experience of Silver Elite. The emotions came through loud and raw, and I genuinely felt the weight of every twist, loss, and glimmer of hope. It’s a mash-up of all the big fantasy hitters, with its own unique flavour of pain and passion.

The story is fast-paced and full of energy—tragic, yes, and emotionally heavy at times. The lead character’s emotional journey is tangled and messy, and while I wasn’t keen on how intimacy was used as a balm, the overall arc still kept me hooked. And that ending? Brutal. Absolutely brutal.

I’ll be impatiently waiting for the next one, heart in hand.

A beautifully broken fantasy with bite

it was a wild ride of a plot with many twists and turns. I give it a strong 5 stars. The narration was well done. I do wish more authors would invest in duet narration with male narrators. It just makesit so much more enjoyable overall.

Thrilling

Whilst some parts where quite predictable at times, i actually really enjoyed this book! I’m always a bit skeptical when something is hyped too much, but the writing, characters and acting on the audio book is really enjoyable. I won’t say it was world shattering but a great read/listen

Really enjoyed!

Wow what a blast the whole book is, not a dull moment. Interesting world, characters, diverse magic world, action, romance and keeping secrets. And I got to read about military training time again, which is my current favorite trope. Hopefully the next part will be released soon.

Totally five stars!
