About this listen
Dublin, 1984: Jim Finnegan is thirteen years old, the youngest in a family of five sisters.
After a drunken yet delicate rendition of 'The Fields of Athenry' at a party, Jim captures both the attention of the beautiful Saidhbh Donohue and the unwanted desires of the devious Father O'Culigeen.
Between his growing love for Saidhbh and the abuse O'Culigeen subjects him to, Jim's life starts to unravel.
©2013 Kevin Maher (P)2013 W F Howes LtdIt’s hard to believe now, that the church in Ireland once had that much control during my generations upbringing. If you knew Ireland of the 80s this is a must read. The language, the attitudes and the people were described so well I thought I was back there, before all that bingey bangey stuff happened. My favorite book for the last year or so.
Looking forward to Kevin’s next book.
