About this listen

The long-awaited autobiography of one of the most respected rugby union referees ever.

It's rare for a referee in any sport to be popular, yet Nigel Owens has always courted strong affection throughout the world - loved by the players, coaches, officials, TV commentators and even fans. A real character, some of his famous put-downs whilst lecturing players, such as 'This is Not Soccer', have become huge social media hits.

The best rugby referee of his generation, Nigel also has an incredible back story to tell. After coming through dark times when he tried to take his own life, he was the first leading figure in the macho world of rugby union to come out openly as gay and went on to command respect everywhere for his honesty off the pitch and ability as a referee on it.

This is an inspirational story of triumph over adversity, hope over despair. It all makes for a truly compelling read as the rugby book of the year.

With a foreword by Dan Carter.

Entertaining listen

Nigel’s honesty and fairness shines through his down to earth approach to life comes through in his story of his life so far nice listening to the little comments of big name players and him when they were on the pitch when he was refereeing the game

One of the best

What a story. Read by the man himself. And yes Nigel, it brought a smile to my face and a tear or two to my eye.

If only football had the same respect as rugby.

Simply a good listen

Had me chuckling and emotional in equal quantity. No need to be a rugby fan or a great sports enthusiast to enjoy this marvellous story. A story of a wonderful person who just happened to be the world’s best referee. Thank you.

very honest and Insightful

loved this book although there is a bit of repetition at the beginning. Nigel sounds like a great guy and it is interesting to hear how the rugby world works.

An honestly written book.

I didn’t know of the background to Nigels life story. I picked the book because of the footage on social media you see of him. It’s funny as you would expect but i was shocked to hear he was sat on a Welsh mountain with a bottle of tablets and a shotgun. He has been through emotions highs and lows few of us ever experience. Im glad Nigel read it as well it was like he was speaking to you personally.
