Summary
THE NUMBER ONE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, JULY 2023
When frantic, dishevelled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn't know quite what to make of the situation. The co-creator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie's true identity.
Robin decides that the agency can't help with this - and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.
Robin and her business partner Cormoran Strike become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie's true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches their powers of deduction to the limits - and which threatens them in new and horrifying ways . . .
A gripping, fiendishly clever mystery, The Ink Black Heart is a true tour-de-force.

Not suited to audiobook
I’m sure this is a great book really but because it’s very internet focused it’s a really difficult listen - lots of usernames read out over and over again, and very short sentences

An unusual Strike book but well written and gripping to the end
I had the book preordered for around three weeks and was literally counting down the minutes to download. Since beginning listening I’ve resented every interruption and have stayed up long past midnight to finish it.
First impressions were “Ohh that’s a bit of an echo of some of the online trolling that some celebrities have been enduring”
This actually sparked my interest and made the online gaming dialogues more palatable (as I was listening between the lines, so to speak).
I’m pleased this subject has been covered as I feel it is a bit of an eye opening exposé of how the darker side of the internet actually is, it certainly made me very glad to be a 70s child!
I thought the plot was great and enjoyed the accompanying subplots too, and of course the ongoing Strike, Robin relationship,
I found I literally did not want to stop listening and enjoyed the narration greatly. Well done Robert Glenister for bringing each main character, familiarly back to life for me and especially for injecting some personality into the random troll ranting.
I honestly enjoyed every part of this book and look forward to the next instalment.

Brilliant
I can see other peoples reviews regarding all the twitter/chat dialogues and can understand their frustration, but, I persevered and it was well worth it.
It’s not a book to have on in the background while you wash the dishes; it’s one you have to concentrate on so you don’t get lost in the chatter. Galbraith never leaves you wondering what the point of listening to all that was, Strike and Ellicot always discuss it between themselves as they usually do, throwing ideas at each other.
There are the usually shocks, twists, and an unexpected ending with underlying humour. Of course, Strike’s usual dismal relationships with females continue, and the firm’s two partners are still dancing around each other in regard to their feelings so much I just wanted to put them in a room until they hashed it out.
Please listen to the end if you can, it’s Galbraith’s best so far and it’s well worth the 32+ hours of your time.

Loved It!
Although it took me a while to get my head round all twitter and other conversations, I was sad to finish this book as It was cleverly written and I really enjoyed it. I will be pre ordering next book as soon as it is allowed.

Hard Going
I was looking forward to this book with eager anticipation but now I have it I feel very disappointed.
The online chat is monotonous and difficult to follow, the characters ridiculous. I couldn't take anymore so left the chat room and book after three hours. it's now gone back.

A difficult read for the “social media” illiterate
First, i know that the will they won’t they device is a device used commonly and i know the purpose but, these characters have existence in my mind (speaks volumes about J K’s skill as a writer) and I want to knock their heads together.
My first thought was that the plot had been influenced by the authors experience with social media but she has refuted that idea and why would I doubt her? Rowling seems to be an honorable person with ideas and beliefs that may not chime with some (I do not know) but if we have anything worth defending the freedom of though and expression has to be a prime.
A significant element of the novel is the reading of numerous twitter texts. It was an education. I worked in psychiatry for 30 years and have experienced first hand the devastating repercussions of social media on my younger patients, it can be devastating.

The Ink Black Heart 🖤
Not the best of the Strike series I’d put this at the bottom of the pile! Narrator is always good in these but given a pretty poor story not terrible and some laugh out loud moments but was very long and drawn out! Wasn’t as exciting and fast paced as the other books and the will they won’t they between Strike and Ellacott is just annoying now! Not sure where JK will go now with this duo but hopefully if there is another it will be a lot better than this! 6/10

Not long enough
Only joking. Another fantastic book in the strike series. With each book I get more attached to Strike and Robin, I really hope there's more to come in the series. Story was perfect blend of dark and humorous.
