About this listen

From the internationally bestselling author of the Sword of Truth series, comes a new Richard and Kahlan novel, sequel to The Omen Machine.

The bloodthirsty Jit is dead, and against all odds Richard and Kahlan have survived. But a new menace has attacked them in the Dark Lands. Infected with the essence of death itself, robbed of his power as a war wizard, Richard must race against time to uncover and stop the infernal conspiracy assembling itself behind the wall far to the north. His friends and allies are already captives of this fell combination, and Kahlan, also touched by death's power, will die completely if
Richard fails.

Bereft of magic, Richard has only his sword, his wits, his capacity for insight – and an extraordinary companion, the young Samantha, a healer just coming into her powers.

Compelling, fast-moving, and intense, The Third Kingdom is a powerful tale that welcomes new readers to Terry Goodkind's world, while opening up new vistas of worldbuilding for longtime readers of the adventures of Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell.

Critic reviews

‘Few writers have Goodkind’s power of creation’
Publishing News

‘Goodkind’s greatest triumph: the ability to introduce instantly identifiable characters. His heroes, like us, are not perfect. Instead, each is flawed in ways that strengthen rather than weaken their impact.’
SFX

‘A real born storyteller'
Anne McCaffrey

'Everything one could ask for in an epic fantasy'

Having read the previous books it was nice to reacquaint with Richard Zed and others. It was a welcome surprise to see the Sword of Truth saga continues. This book was better than Debt of Bones but I would listen to any new Sword of Truth regardless - credit to the well developed characters and the person reading the books.

Good continuation of the story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Third Kingdom to be better than the print version?

No both are equally as good

Such a disappointment after listening to 11 books of The Sword of Truth, which I loved. These two (The Omen Machine and The Third Kingdom) feel tired and lack-lustre when compared to the original amazing epic. Almost as though they were churned out on the back of the a hugely successful series…

The story is all over the place, the characters have lost their heart, the prose is incredibly repetitive. I sat through 15 hours of The Omen Machine (a credit I will never see again) and am giving up on The Third Kingdom a few hours in. Incredibly graphic and gory without the gripping plotline to justify it.

A huge disappointment.

Cashing in on The Sword of Truth.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Too much repetiton of facts it is over and over again becomes hard listening
Sam Tsoutsouvas is not a patch on Nick Sullivan

What was most disappointing about Terry Goodkind’s story?

Too long too much constant repetition of same facts

How could the performance have been better?

Get Nick Sullivan to narrate he makes the stories come alive

Could you see The Third Kingdom being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No

The Third Kindom

I have listened to all of the Sword of Truth books and this one was quite honestly the worst by a long way. It could be used as a prefix to the next book, which I hope would be better. Much too much descriptive texts and not enough action. Quite honestly the end of this book was sudden with no real conclusion and not worth the read.
I doubt I will listen to the next.

Not the best by a long way.
