I have to confess, I had worked out the outcome of this thriller before the end. The clues were there if you paid close attention. However, and this is a sign of brilliant writing, knowing what was going to be revealed in no way spoiled the book for me. I was intrigued as to how Ms Renham was going to twist and turn the tale to fit the ending. The answer to that is very cleverly! Libby was a most unlikable character, and yet I couldn't help feel she was a product of her environment, and how desperately sad it all was. It demonstrated clearly the lesson I always try to convey to my children; not all problems can be solved by throwing money at them. Additionally, you can spend your life never quite having enough money and still be the richest person in the world. Watching You is a taut, well written thriller with a cast of credible characters. Rosie Akerman does a stand up job with the narration. The only reason this book gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had worked out what was going on. This is my first book by Lynda Renham, but it certainly won't be my last. Highly recommended.

I thought this book was great. It gets you guessing and then when you think you've got it, you realise you haven't got a clue.

I like both the author and the narrator, and will definitely be keeping an eye out for them both in the future

Fifteen years ago, Lilly gave evidence which condemned a man for the murder of her Aunt and Uncle.
Fifteen years ago, Ewan was imprisoned for the murder of his employer and his wife - a crime he has always claimed he did not commit.
Now Ewan is free, and has a plan. And Libby is in fear of her life.

Naively written, the story alternates between the happenings of the fateful events of New Year's Eve at the millennium turn and the present day up, until the dramatic climax. Characterisation is reasonable, some of the chapters being presented in the first person from the point of view of Libby, herself. Unfortunately, this reader found both of the main protagonists unlikable but the story itself was good, maintaining the question of who did murder the couple if Ewan was, indeed, innocent?

The narration was excellent, Rosie Ackerman giving an, if anything, over dramatic performance, her young sounding voice clear, with excellent intonation, the somewhat hysterical nature of Libby reverberating in her reading. Her other character voices were also seperately differentiated.

Overall, an interesting read by an author I had not previously encountered, and a book which retained my interest despite my inability to connect with any of the characters. Despite the good and intense narration, this is a book which I would have preferred to read as text.
