Summary

When the police are unable to find a body, they are forced to dismiss a homeless veteran’s claim that he witnessed a homicide. But after he is found murdered in the same spot two days later, DI Bliss and the Major Crime Unit set their sights on catching a ruthless killer.

Elsewhere, when the daughter of a cuckooed family is reported to have attempted suicide, Jimmy Bliss and DC Penny Chandler have their doubts and vow to uncover the truth. But the situation is about to get much worse, and violence is certain to erupt on the city streets.

In his final two investigations before retiring from the police force, Bliss undergoes a desperate search for answers. Answers that prove to be as elusive as the identities of the men making so many people’s lives a complete misery. But with his colleagues every bit as determined to bring these people to justice, the team use all of their experience and insight to uncover the one lead they need to make a breakthrough in both cases…

Bliss's last week as a DCI in Major Crimes

It is Jimmy Bliss's last week as a DI in the Major Crime Unit as he is about to retire! He has two cases to solve - the murder of a veteran, and the mystery of a young girl with cerebral palsy who has seemingly taken an overdose.

The book is fast paced and well plotted and Jimmy and his team are great characters with loads of banter. These books, and the crimes, feel so very realistic. I feel I've got to know Bliss well in the previous books. He is an old style copper who believes in justice and is always on the side of the underdog. I was so sad whilst reading this, wondering if this was the last we would hear of Bliss but I believe book 12 will see him as a civilian investigator working cold cases. Phew!!

It's a shame that they changed the narrator for this book as all the previous ones were narrated by Greg Wagland, though the new narrator, Andrew Cullum, also does a great job.

Last week for Bliss

I was really disappointed that Greg Wayland was not the narrator of this last book in the series, after narrating the previous 10 books. it would be great if there was a follow on series, in which Bliss does private Investigations!

Really loved this book. Have listened to every book in the Bliss series. The characters are so real. Sad the series has come to an end. Janet from Kent

Excellent book as usual from this author

I’ve now read all the D I Bliss books got 2 free but happily bought the rest because I couldn’t wait for a credit for each book!
I enjoyed this lovable cranky big hearted police officer. Everything about these books are on que and believable the character development is excellent and I’ve loved the diversity within the books too. A series I throughly enjoyed.
I shall be looking into the authors other books now, if you’ve enjoyed Joy Ellis or LJ Ross I think you’d love DI Bliss.

Too bad they changed narrator!

As someone who has enjoyed listening to the whole series of DI Bliss books up to now, I am disappointed that the decision was made to change the narrator.
The old one was pleasant the new one less so.
There is nothing really wrong with the new narrator. For my ears his interpretation of women voices is grating and his overall narration a little too ‘wet’ and nasal, however that comes down to personal taste.
The main objection is that the interpretation of the characters changed with the narrator. After so many books read by the same person one builds a familiarity and idea of the characters. The new narrator breaks that… frankly, I personally doubt I would have listened to more than one book in the series (if that) with the new narrator at the helm.
On one hand I am looking forward to more instalments of Bliss and Chandler but am unsure and will wait to see who the narrator of the next book is…..

All the Bliss’s

I’ve just finished the last book and now feeling a bit lost . What a brilliant series. Loved every book and will miss Jimmy and penny a lot . I bit miffed when the last book had another narrator but quickly forgot as he was equally great and brought all characters to life . Thank you for these books.
