• Make Prioritising Self-Care a Non-Negotiable with Shaunace West

    When was the last time you stopped to smell the roses? You’ve probably been outside today, whether that’s battling to get the kids in the car for school, taking the bins out for collection, or walking the dog because you have to otherwise no one else will. So why don’t we go out with the only intention being a mindful moment in the garden? As women, we are all really good at filling our days with busy to-do lists, but we’re not so good at filling them with things that bring us joy or are just for our own pleasure. Our guest this week, Shaunace West, has gained some serious perspective on this lack of self-love that we often show ourselves. Shaunace is a transformational life coach, certified yoga teacher, and founder of 11:11 Labs (and a beautiful friend of mine!). After suddenly being diagnosed with breast cancer at 27 and then bone cancer not long after, her busy life came crashing to an abrupt halt as she faced her new reality. Whilst going through her radiation treatment she was offered the chance to join a make-up workshop for cancer patients, but found that all of the products contained harsh chemicals that had severe health risks. 11:11 Labs was born from the need to fill the gap of safe but luxurious products, however, it took on a whole new purpose as she found that the ritual of a nightly skincare routine was one of the only moments in a woman’s day that she spends purely looking after herself. She now advocates for women to preserve their own sense of self, and find ways they can incorporate self-care into their day to day lives. We discuss her own non-negotiables for taking care of her health, and the importance it has on building self-worth. We’ll also be looking at how we can bring more mindfulness into our chaotic schedules to ensure that we don’t burn out our mental health and resilience. Shaunace generously shares her personal journey of enlightenment to the truly important things in life with us, learning from her difficult times to emerge with a new perspective.

  • How Practicing Mindfulness Can Make You A Better Role Model For Your Kids with Nina Visic

    They say patience is a virtue, but it’s not something that’s guaranteed - especially if you’re a parent. When your patience has been worn thin, it’s only a matter of time before it snaps, creating a repetitive cycle of guilt and shame over those little explosions about the small things (does it really matter if they don’t want to wear shoes today?). Here to teach us to act, rather than react, is Nina Visic. Nina is a certified Mindful Parenting coach and has also extended her knowledge to become a qualified Head and Heart mindfulness instructor. As a mum to 3 young boys, Nina found she was struggling to keep up with them, and was feeling exhausted with ‘mum life’. She realised she was consistently reacting negatively to the stress of parenting, but she didn’t have any coping or regulation methods in place to help her. After completing the Mindful Parenting course herself, she’s seen an incredible difference in the way she’s able to interact positively with her kids - even when they aren’t on their best behaviour! Nina’s passion now is to share this with other stressed-out parents, to improve their household’s quality of life. We look into the science behind mindfulness, and how it works to cognitively reshape bad patterns of reactivity, and strengthen the logical, calm part instead. We’ll also share our own strategies for mindfulness, and how you can take little ‘normal’ moments in the day to practice it yourself. Although our own childhood environments may have lacked accountability and rationality, Nina encourages parents to be gentle and compassionate towards themselves and start role-modelling the behaviours we wish we’d been taught as children. We’re certainly not saying anyone has to be perfect all the time, but by becoming more mindful you can transform your home into a yelling-free zone of happy kids - and that’s all we could ever hope for our children.

Well, that’s a totally different story! And it’s one that our guest this week is able to personally share with us. Harmony Jade, a women’s business mentor and certified yoga instructor, joins me on the latest episode of the Beautiful Subconscious podcast. After working a high-pressure job in the corporate world for over 20 years, she experienced firsthand the mental toll of career burnout (or as she calls it, the polite way of saying nervous breakdown). Harmony found she no longer recognised the person she had become - so, she decided to make a radical change.     Our subconscious mind holds all our traumas and fears deep within. They can be uncomfortable truths to face, and we tend to push them right down to avoid having to deal with them. But when we push those thoughts away, we don’t silence them entirely... so where do they go? When we can’t (or won’t!) verbalise our deepest emotions, our bodies will speak that truth for us through our reactions. On this week’s episode, I’m translating your body’s secret language with our deciphering tool - kinesiology. Traumatic or emotional events affect not only our minds but also our bodies, embedding those memories deep within. When triggered, those emotions burst to the surface as physical symptoms. By using kinesiology, we can work within the musculature systems and begin to address these long-lost memories that are holding us back, and then set them free by working with the body - not against it.   • Kinesiology is a Human Lie Detector

    Have you ever told someone ‘I’m fine!’, but you weren’t really fine? Or did you say it so convincingly that you even managed to convince yourself? Whilst your mind can play tricks on you, your body can’t lie - it holds all of that emotion and stress inside and manifests in physical symptoms! And we can take advantage of those clues by using our good friend kinesiology. In this week’s episode, I’ll be sharing how you can use kinesiology to shed light on the truth your subconscious is trying to hide away. Whilst it’s a reflex that’s designed to help protect us, it’s not usually adapting and forming in healthy or constructive ways. The mental stress starts to seep into other areas of your body, and your muscles can’t function properly under that duress. So we can step in with kindness to ourselves, and allow ourselves to face the truth that our subconscious so desperately wants to conceal, and only then can we work to let that tension go and heal the cause at its core. Your mind is a mystery that can be solved - you just need a great kinesiology detective!
