There is definitely one thing that every person on the planet has in common: we will all eventually die. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

If you can avoid dying in an accident, from a rampant disease or at the hands of an axe-wielding maniac, how long do you think you could live for, until old age takes you away? What are you likely to eventually die from?

Are you predicting your age of death based on your when your parents passed away? How important is genetics to your maximum lifespan? How can we live longer, and also live healthily, happily and full of energy?

Anybody who has lost a loved-one to Alzheimer's or dementia knows how devastating and soul-destroying for the whole family the disease is. Will you fall victim to it? Is there anything you can do to prevent it? Is it inevitable if it's in your family's history?

I want to live until I'm 100, and I want to be healthy, mobile and energetic until the end. I want all my faculties to still be working, including my brain & my memory. That's my goal. I'm nearly 61 now, so I need to get my sh*t together if this is to become a reality. That is what this episode is about.

This episode discusses a little bit about the process of aging, plus how important your genetics are to your life expectancy, and what we can all do to extend our lives; not only the duration of life, but the joy, the mobility and the love of life. In the process, I offer a number of hacks that should significantly help you achieve years, if not decades, of more high-quality life.

Incidentally, the book I mentioned is called "Lifespan: Why we age-and why we don't have to" by David Sinclair.

  • Podcast 44: With Roman Simon. If you think 72 hours is a long fast, then listen to this podcast!
    Aug 28 2024

Fasting has several health benefits. It helps your body "spring clean" all your damaged and unhealthy cells. It breaks them down and uses their building blocks to build new healthy cells. It also changes all sorts of chemical & hormonal processes inside your body.

Extended fasting uses your body-fat for energy, so you are not permanently tired! In fact your energy levels will often be as good as, or even better than when you are eating normally.

Usually we think of a fast that lasts for 24 hours. Maybe 48 hours for serious people, or even 72 hours for the real devotees. Well, how about someone who has fasted for 21 days!

Meet Roman Simon, today's guest. This is a candid drill-down of Roman's reasons for fasting, plus a great in-depth chat about why he did it, and why he's now 7 days into a new personal record... 28 days!
As usual with my podcasts, we get sidetracked into all sorts of other subjects!

If you want to learn more about Roman, his social media contacts are:
    X (twitter) @re4mat0r (that's a zero, not an "o")
    Instagram (his film making) @vantisto

He also mentions a scientist who is involved with extended fasting; Jason Fung.

  • Podcast 43: Are you lacking in Iodine? This simple nutrient could save your life.
    Aug 25 2024

    Send us a text

What's the big deal about a simple little trace element called Iodine?

Did you know that iodine helps combat breast cancer, prostate cancer, miscarriage, still birth, and infant mortality? Did you know it can destroy Covid-19 in infected patients, quickly and efficiently and without side effects?

Iodine also have several beneficial properties. It aids in fertility, menstrual cycles, brain development of babies, reduction of ADHD in children, to name just a few. If you have sore breasts around your periods, iodine could be your savior. It's also responsible for sperm & egg production. Furthermore it is very strong at keeping your immune system at peak performance.

Iodine is well known for its relationship with the thyroid. Deficiencies in iodine can cause your thyroid to swell & malfunction. This can lead to all sorts of medical problems.

Yet many countries are severely lacking in this trace element. The UK is in the top 10 countries most deficient, and parts of the USA aren't far behind. New Zealand, parts of China, and dozens of other countries have soils that naturally lack iodine, so all the crops grown & animals raised in these countries are also deficient. If it is lacking in the soils around you, then it will be lacking in the food you eat.
This means that your health, and especially the health of your entire reproductive system & every facet of it, could be at the mercy of iodine levels in your body.

If you, or someone you know, is having trouble conceiving, iodine could be an answer.

Iodine deficiency is simple to rectify; their are tablets you can buy online and take orally. This podcast discusses some of the ways iodine affects the health of people.

Caveat: I am not a doctor; the information in this podcast is only my opinion, and I am in no way suggesting any course of action. You should always seek medical advice before taking or changing any medications. However, if you are having any issues with the various situations I list in this podcast, then perhaps it's worth having a candid chat with your health professional!

I hope you enjoy this podcast, and please subscribe if you haven't already.

    Thanks,

    Pete.

  • Podcast 42: Why we get old, and how can we slow ageing down?
    Aug 11 2024

When you're a teenager, getting old is something that happens to other people in a far away world. But when you're in your 40s or 50s (or older), getting older suddenly becomes much more significant. We've seen our parents deteriorate, and many of us have seen them finally perish. Dying becomes a harsh reality, and it would be nice to delay it for as long as possible!
Avoiding death is impossible, but are there ways that we can postpone the inevitable & eventually dying?
This podcast attempts to answer that, and gives you some simple takeaways to help you extend your coherent, enjoyable life for as long as possible.
The podcast travels back in time to before the earth was even inhabited, and follows evolution as it affects our bodies and therefore our metabolism. This is because evolution has made us the way we are. It is up to us now to squeeze the most out of this incredible magic of life.

I also attempt to answer that age-old question: "What came first, the chicken or the egg?"
I also chat about why we endeavor to have sex, and how was a process of ecological importance.

Body-fat is an amazing product; it has been designed over thousands & thousands of years as a means to store energy for difficult times when food is scarce. These days however, body-fat is a frustrating curse for many people.
Your body is generally in one of two states: Fat -creating, or fat burning. It is very difficult to simultaneously be in both states.
So how can you turn the table? How can you train your body to burn your body-fat instead of accumulating more of it? That's what I attempt to explain in this episode.
