Summary

Independently wealthy and indisputably brilliant, Special Agent Pendergast uses his considerable gifts to serve the FBI by decoding human behavior and tracking down heinous criminals.

Aloysius Xingu Leng Pendergast is a rare and remarkable individual. Sophisticated, erudite, handsome, and rich, the 50ish Pendergast studied Anthropology at Harvard and has a PhD in Philosophy from Oxford, speaks several languages fluently, boasts lethal expertise in many styles of combat, and is a walking encyclopedia of obscure knowledge. Naturally, having chosen to apply his talents to the realm of crime-solving, Pendergast is a celebrated FBI investigator, known for his ability to crack even the most confounding, bizarre, and gruesome cases purely for the satisfaction. (He receives an annual honorarium of a dollar.) The creation of co-authors Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Special Agent Pendergast is a modern genius whose acumen for catching the bad guys is legendary.

The intriguing Agent Pendergast made his debut as a supporting character in the novel Relic and its sequel, Reliquary, before taking center stage in The Cabinet of Curiosities. Marking the start of his series stardom, the crime thriller pits the brilliant and controversial investigator against a killer on the loose in New York City, whose grisly murders copycat those committed more than a century earlier.

Across more than 20 novels and short stories, Agent Pendergast's adventures are recounted by a litany of great narrators, including Scott Brick, an award-winning and prolific narrator known for his “golden voice” and carefully paced cadence, and Rene Auberjonois, whose pose and sophistication matches that of Pendergast himself. “My problem, quite simply, is that I cannot stay away from an interesting case,” attests Pendergast. Fans of intricately plotted, character-driven whodunits will soon find themselves hooked on his habit.
