Lynda La Plante
About this listen
This edition includes content exclusive to the audiobook: alongside Lynda, you will hear from close friends, family and stars she's worked with during her long career, including Dame Helen Mirren, Simon Callow, Victoria Smurfit, Ann Mitchell, Dawn French, Carol Cleveland and Gill Titchmarsh.
Lynda La Plante has lived an illustrious life and has the stories to prove it.
From her early days in Liverpool to her unexpected acceptance into RADA, joining peers Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt and Ian McShane; from beginning her scriptwriting career with Widows and Prime Suspect and becoming a BAFTA award-winning writer and producer, Lynda's tales of stage and screen will have you gasping in shock as well as laughing in the aisles.
Lynda has an important story to tell, one of breaking down stereotypes and blazing a trail for others along the way. Starting her writing career in the eighties, an era of entrenched gender inequality both in front of and behind the camera, Lynda faced innumerable obstacles to her vision.
Getting Away with Murder shows how she overcame them to create generation-defining television and become a multi-million-copy Sunday Times bestselling author. Still at the very top of her game, Lynda shares her story on her own terms, in a way that's guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and be inspired to live a life without limits.
'Screamingly funny and deliciously candid, full of wisdom and joie de vivre, this is memoir with the grip of a thriller' ERIN KELLY©2024 Lynda La Plante (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

what a woman
iv never read a LLP book but know of her characters in the many TV drama's she has done.
From page 1 to the last letter of this book i was hooked i was in awe i couldnt get enough of her memoirs, she has done it all seen it all and may i add got the t shirt many times over to prove it all ..
Her storys are funny sad very engaging but some made me scream with anger at what the big wigs have put her through many times over ..
Now maybe im biased as im a Liverpool lass also but Lynda i want to say with all my heart
I love you, your humour, and your resilience in life x

Absolutely fascinating
A brilliant book, a fascinating life lived and still more to come from the “prolific” author Lynda La Plante. Narrated by the author, this book will make you laugh out loud, leave you feeling thoroughly educated and cause some intense sadness as it weaves its way through Lynda’s life. Highly recommended read and incredibly entertaining, I found it difficult to put down.

One of the best autobiographies I have ever listened to.
Wow - what a story & so brilliantly told by Lynda herself. Lynda pulls no punches and tells her story warts and all & is searingly honest much to the horror of those named in not such a good light!
What a life and what a women - totally brilliant Hugely recommend.

Lynda's honesty
I just loved everything about the book. Her inspiration for the characters, her acting struggles and her struggles with TV executives who didn't have her vision.

Thriller
I finished this book on audible in about 10 days I do have a full time long hours job running my pub . It was the most amazing book, and right up there with Lynda's best sellers most of which I have listened to on audible. I can't believe television and the way it operates, and find it impossible to think they wouldn't want the auther on board all the way. tenison. Can't recommend this book enough and all my customers certainly know about it already. loved lynda already love her even more now.

A wonderful tale of a life well lived
I adored this audio book as much as I adore Lynda!
At times hysterical (I replayed the bit about Freddie Starr repeatedly as Lydia expertly told the tale and made me howl) to poignant moments when talking about her desire to be a mother and life's hard knocks.
A fabulous book and a real treat for it to be read by the lady herself.
As the Lynda herself said: "You can take the girl out of Liverpool but not Liverpool out of the girl".
Absolutely excellent, the best audio book I've listened to, ever!
Key takeaways from this book (and great advice) is you might be down, but you're never out so get up and keep going. And the best revenge is success.
Thank you so much for sharing your story Lynda. Hope you read this and know there's much love for you from your readers.
Love from one Liverpool gal to another xx
