About this listen

From the international best-selling author of the DCI Ryan mysteries.

A new Doctor Alexander Gregory thriller performed by Richard Armitage.

You can’t run from the past....

Back in London after a dramatic trip to North America, Doctor Alexander Gregory finds himself without an occupation while he awaits the all-important decision of the disciplinary panel at Southmoor Hospital. That is, until he witnesses the death of a famous actor, live on stage during the opening night of King Lear. When the police rule the death suspicious, they call upon the elite services of Gregory and his partner in criminal profiling, Bill Douglas.

Gregory is paired with attractive investigating officer DCI Hope, and tensions arise - especially when an old foe resurfaces.

With bodies piling up and no new leads, Gregory and Hope realise they must look to the past to uncover the truth - before it’s too late. Immersed in the glamorous world of celebrity, Gregory soon learns that, beneath the surface, things are far murkier than they seem....

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst London’s vibrant Theatreland.

A well told story.

Dr Gregory accompanied me through several hours of decorating. How does the story teller not get confused with all the different accents!

Another good book in the series

I loved the last book, Bedlam, and so I bought this one. It was more of a slow burn for me, but it definitely picked up. I wasn't ready for the end though. Felt like a sudden stop, but it sets things up nicely for future books. Read beautifully by Armitage, as always. His voices really do make the story come to life. Recommended.

A book that has stretched my mind and thoughts

Reading of a world I had no idea or concept of, totally absorbing and I shall need to read again to come close to absorbing the whole picture!

Very enjoyable

The next installment of Alexander Gregory did not disappoint. this installment set in the theatre. A gripping story which I stayed up late to finish. it also helps that the audiobook is read by Richard Armitage. That man could read the phone book and I would be happy.

Good story

Was let down by Cambridge references, why not use Footlights instead of Spotlights, wrong name for ADC theatre, annoying!

Loved this!

I’m hooked on the Alexander Gregory stories and this latest explores the theme of reputation. The exploration of character and motive plus multiple plot strands kept me listening and I finished it in three days. It ended with a cliffhanger and I’m already looking forward to the next in the series. Richard Armitage is a superb narrator making every character individual and believable. A great addition to the series.
