Summary

The annual West Uist literary festival - The Gathering - always attracts the best in the business. But with the tiny island population suddenly doubling, the local police force is stretched to breaking point. And this year they have to deal with more than just drunken fights and rowdy behaviour....

Ranald Buchanan, the local poet, is found dead, with his head brutally caved in, and Inspector Torquil McKinnon is brought in to investigate. Did Ranald trip and fall, as suggested? Or is something more sinister happening? Before Torquil can find out more, another victim is found. The island is on lockdown. There is a serial killer in their midst. And this time the victim is someone very close to him.

Now finding justice is personal. Torquil is out for revenge. Can he solve the mystery before the killer strikes again? Or will more bodies fall victim to The Gathering Murders?

A Pleasant Story

I found this book in the Audible Plus Catalogue and it was a pleasant find. The setting, story and characters were interesting but there was something missing that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
Although characters in life have repetitive behaviour, it can be a bit of a pain to listen to every time a character comes to the front of the story. The narrator was ok with a pleasant lilt and tone.
Worth a try.

Worth a read

Cleverly written plot, interesting characters and a great twist at the end. I’d like to read more from this author.

too many plots

the narration is excellent. the story is weak - there are too many random plots, most only resolved in the last chapter.

Good story but took too long

The sound of narration voice is quite melodic but had to speed narration up to make it bareable. Pleased to getcto the end story just seemed to go on and on with unnecessary descriptions. Ill probably listen to another one as long as its free.

Not so Riveting

Skipped loads - past all the usual Scottish self aggrandisement and other unnecessary narrative.
Story quite good, but I probably won't bother with the next two in this series, free on Audible. Not keen on the narration.

it's okay

A story that is an easy listen, but is essentially a short story that's been elongated.

At the end of the 1st book Tarq had a new DS as his gf and she was staying on the Isle, but she's disappeared in this one?

Narrator is a natural in these books, nice change of voice for characters.
