Summary

This title contains strong language and mature themes, including references to sexual violence, abuse of minors and animals, and suicide, that some listeners may find upsetting. Discretion is advised.

I just met my new son-in-law . . . And he’s my ex-husband.

They’re here. I watch them arrive from the kitchen window. My pregnant daughter and her new husband. They’ve barely known each other six months.

I greet him with a tight smile that he recognizes as fake.

Luke is no good for my beautiful, fragile Cerys. He’ll break her heart. I know that because he broke mine — when he was married to me.

I don’t know what he’s after. But I’m going to make it my business to find out.

Don’t underestimate me. I’ll do anything to keep my daughter safe.

Decent story, good narration

Decent enough story, liked the narration style.
Maybe goes on a bit too long after what could have been conclusion.

Good story line with some twists and turns

Very readable story done on a rainy Sunday! Interesting characters and a strong story of intrigue and suspense

A bit silly

I’m so sorry but I found this book a little bit silly. Not a bad listen but pretty far fetched.

I had high hopes.

I really wanted this to be good & it did have its good moments to be fair to it, but overall, it was so far fetched & that daughter, OMG, what a nightmare!
I saw the majority of the twists way before they were revealed but the final twist was just silly & I wanted to slap some sense into all of them. I get that the author was trying to convey that the daughter was blind to the love of the son in law, but really??

I think what annoyed me the most was the whole vegan thing – it was obviously written by a non-vegan as the information was way off - vegans don't ‘box’ their dogs ears, buy dogs from breeders, run a sheep farm, ride horses, allow their partner to treat animals badly without saying anything about it, & if she can get a vegan cream sponge cake from a small local bakery in the Welsh mountains, then I’m obviously looking in all the wrong places! There's more but frankly, it was too daft to remember.

But hey ho, it was free & it passed the time while I was cleaning, I just wish it’d been better.

Definitely worth a listen, and for free with membership cannot go wrong.

I found the daughter to be extremely painful to listen to; she really is insufferable. However, I believe that was the author aim, and the narrator was good at making a voices of her as equally as annoying. But I see that as a good thing as the book is about many forms of abuse.

After listening to phycological thrillers it has become an obsession, and things can start to become “predictable”, there is only a certain amount of options an author can go down in a physiological thriller can go down without adding supernatural elements.

So, yes elements have been predictable. But I still think it’s a good book, it’s intense, gives off low vibration and could possible affect your own mood off it. But if you are crazy like me and enjoy it, I’d recommend it as a good and free listen. I found it fun and I did not guess the ending so it was predictable for me.

Totally compelling

Always another twist. Very dark. Let's just say that the narcissistic son-in-law is not the worst character in this book. If you like the genre, try this novel.

If you want to be constantly infuriated

The daughter is so insufferable. Everything about her made my blood boil and I don’t like reading books with characters I hate. The husband isn’t the villain, the daughter is. This is not a spoiler

Strong characters . Good plot.

Didn’t like the murder with pigs eating the corps. The book was very good otherwise.

What stood out... The constant whinny selfish drone of the daughter!

This could have been a great psychopath type story but unfortunately it came across as a wet blanket of a story with a very immature, selfish whingy daughter who if not pregnant, I could happily shake her. Lukes character could have been such a cinister baddy, but he came across as a hapless, self centred man. Not my cup of tea. Sorry.
