About this listen

What’s an elderly woman to do when a lich destroys her home and tries to take her life? Why, she gathers up her friends, her kitties, and her newfound powers as a hybrid core and gets to work.

With only 199 days to deal with the lich, Florence must take the dungeon she calls a home on the road and eliminate the source of the lich’s power: infected dungeon cores.

Whether these infected cores will become enemies or allies remains to be seen, but they aren’t the only threat Florence and her friends will face. Others will seek to use Florence’s unique nature for their own gain or destroy her for what she has become. A powerful lich, the adventurers guild, and even a grieving king will stand in her way, but Florence has friends of her own and the best thing in the entire world at her side… her kitties.

Join Florence in the epic conclusion to the Cat Core series.

watching the MC grow from a bitter recluse old lady to someone who cares about those around her, Wholesome ending to the series and it’s definitely worth a listen while procrastinating.

Wholesome ending

Having immensely enjoyed the first book in this series (which was a fantastic freebie with my subscription), I was hopeful for the rest of the trilogy. While the second book was okay, I'm sad to say that this third installment was a letdown.

There were certainly amusing and enjoyable moments, but they were often overshadowed by some truly annoying aspects. The repeated, lengthy read-outs of Florence's stats became tedious and boring. I also noticed a significant inconsistency with the character of Doug; in a previous book, he was portrayed as someone who loved shopping, whereas in this one, he hates it. This felt like a jarring contradiction.

Ultimately, I found myself waiting for the book to end and was relieved to see there isn't a fourth one.

While it feels harsh to say, this is my honest opinion. The narration was beautiful, and the fact that I still cared about the characters is a testament to the author's skill. However, the story itself peaked with the first book and unfortunately went downhill from there.

Not bad, but not great.

Cat Core 1, 2 and 3 make up a brilliant series I listened to whilst waiting for book 12 of He who fights with monsters, a really enjoyable set of books and the last one ends the series in a heartwarming way. Recommended.

Excellent end to the series.
